Introduction to DAWN

DAWN is designed to keep Discovery scientists aware of new data generated by current hit-to-lead and lead optimisation projects. The following lists are produced every day for each project:

• New AR-C Compounds
• New Biological Results - both new individual results and updated summaries
• New Test Requests

It is easy to move between these lists, and to move to earlier data. There are also links that drill down to AR-X datasheets for all listed compounds. These datasheets contain:

• The chemical structure
• Batch details from the AR-C database, including analytical data
• Links to NMR & MS spectra in Spadez and Web Reporter
• Links to reaction schemes derived from Eric, where available.

• Individual biological results for all current BTPs in which the compound has been tested (not just the new results)
• Links to the full text Biological Test Procedures, where available.
• Biological activities for archival ABACUS data.

The daily lists are kept for the most recent four weeks. The AR-X datasheets are however being kept indefinitely, and can be retrieved using DAWN's AR-X Datasheet Finder. However, in many cases it may be more appropriate and more reliable to use ABACUS and/or SAR Tables.

DAWN's data is derived indirectly from ABACUS via SAR Tables. It therefore only covers current Discovery projects, although AR-X Datasheets do include indicative archival test results where appropriate.

DAWN does not cover High Throughput data - i.e. Plated AR-CC compounds and HTS test results.

Accessing DAWN

Access to DAWN is restricted to Discovery staff and to additional named individuals on a need-to-know basis.

There are three ways you can access DAWN data:

• From the Charnweb Departments Page
• From e-mail - ABACUS Daily News e-mail messages (sent by "BIOREC" for each project) include links to the corresponding DAWN pages.
• From Favorites - First you need to add the list for your project to "Favourites" in Internet Explorer. Do this as follows:
  • Use the following link to display the Project News List.
  • Click on the required project and list type.
  • When the page has appeared, click on the Latest Day button.
  • When the page has re-displayed, click on Favorites then Add to Favorites...

Troubleshooting Guide

Five problems have been reported by some DAWN users, which are easily fixed (click on the appropriate link below):

• Pages appear without structures
• Structures appear on screen, but not on paper
• Structures used to display, but have stopped appearing
• MAIL not forwarded from INFO to Outlook
• You are asked for a Username and Password - Contact Discovery IS for access rights.
